Jump for Breast Cancer 2006
Wild Girls on Snow 2006 opened with a spectacular Big Air demonstration and competition titled ‘Jump for Breast Cancer’ which was held under floodlights on the Selfranga.
The massive kicker was built, under the auspicious of renowned International snowboarder Dani Costandaché, by Hans-Jürg Gerber and Duty Boardsport and Hampi Hobi and his team from the Selfranga. The competitors were specially invited top international skiers and snowboarders with the concept of the competition being that each athlete would represent a Wild Girls team and the winner would be crowned ‘King of the Wild Girls’. The top prize was a very handsome gents steel Arnold & Son GMT II watch kindly donated by The British Masters. Other prizes included magnums of Laurent-Perrier Champagne and cases of Heineken beer.
The event was supported by Heineken and Red Bull whose truck (with the DJ) was strategically placed under the jump thus adding to the spectacle as the competitors had to clear it every time!
‘Jump for Breast Cancer’ drew a massive crowd who were treated to an incredible exhibition of freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Tricks included all kinds of inverts, 900 degree rotations and backward takeoffs and landings as the jumpers tried to out do each other. The only female competitor was Naomi Edmondson who jumped amazingly all evening.
After a very tight competition, final victory and the title of ‘King of the Wild Girls’ was claimed by the phenomenal 15 year old Australian Russ Henshaw seen receiving his watch from Ralph Krueger.
An outstanding performance from Ewan Wallace took him into second place with James Thorne in third.
It was an amazing evening which would not have been possible without the help and support of many people and special thanks to all the brilliant riders who gave their time to come and jump for breast cancer,
