Wild Girls on Snow 2009
‘Wild Girls on Snow’ is a unique and fun skiing event, in aid of charity, which takes place annually in Klosters, Switzerland. The event, organized by Clair Southwell, started with a whim over nine years ago. Wild Girls on Snow has grown into a well established and recognized event that has successfully raised over CHF 500,000 for children’s charities, as well as two breast cancer charities, based in the UK and Switzerland.
The dates for the Jubilee in 2009 are Sunday 15th - Wednesday 18th March. Every year the event follows a different theme and to celebrate 10 years of Wild Girls on Snow the theme is - ‘Wild Girls go Wild West’. There will street parties and line dancing to set the scene, bucking broncos on the mountain, lassoing and horseshoe throwing, dancing saloon girls and whether you want to be a cowboy, Indian, rebel, outlaw, sheriff or deputy there is a role for everyone! Twenty teams will take part with each team consisting of three girls (though mixed teams are also accepted) and a celebrity or a fourth member of their choice.
Every team will be named after a famous Western movie which they will then enact at the event particularly on the mountain for the Wild West Challenges on the Monday! The event programme consists of three evenings with dinner and entertainment and two full days skiing in the Davos/Klosters ski area. Each team will be allocated a Klosters ‘Sheriff’ for one day to keep them safe from predators on the mountain, and on the other day, an ‘Indian Brave’ (Swiss ski racer) blazing the trail for his team in the Wild Girls GS Challenge. Swiss-Ski and ski racers (past and present) of the National Swiss Ski Team have been loyal supporters of this event over the years and their presence en masse in the Jubilee year will be very special.
Wild Girls on Snow supports the same charities for two consecutive years, and in 2009 the event will again benefit the two children’s charities from 2008: Katie’s Ski Tracks (adaptive specialized snow, fun, ski and adventure activity holiday opportunities, for disadvantaged sick and disabled children) in the UK and Right to Play (an international humanitarian organization using sport and play to improve the lives of children and youth in the most disadvantaged areas of the world). Funds will be raised through sponsorship, donations and an auction. A local child will also be sponsored to race with each Wild Girls team and their ski racer in the GS Challenge on Tuesday 17th March under the motto “Kids racing for Kids”. Full details of the programme and activities will be updated on the web site this winter.
Accounts of the themes and activities from previous years, including 2008, are listed in the menu and there are also short video films summarizing the last three events. If you would like to support the Jubilee year of Wild Girls on Snow either through sponsorship, donations, participation or Wild West props/materials then please send a message on the contact page and we will get back to you.
